5 Reasons To Thank Teachers

Giving Thanks.

It seems so simple. So utterly perfect. Spout a few words of appreciation, and you’ve got it covered, right?

WRONG! Giving thanks goes deeper than standard greetings and empty words.

Here are five reasons (in no particular order) to give thanks to teachers, especially during this holiday season.

Give Thanks For Teachers Reason 1

Dedication.

Teachers are dedicated. I read stories and social media updates of teachers spending their weekends grading papers, preparing lessons and activities, and more all in the name of love of their students. We, as educators, want our students to have the very best we have to offer. And often this offering comes at the high price of unpaid time, sacrificed in the name of helping our students.

Give Thanks For Teachers Reason 2

Best Interest of Each Child at Heart.

Teachers have your child’s best interest at heart. From the first day of school until the last, your child’s teacher is in a constant state of concern over how to best help him/her learn. We ponder on ways to better engage him and how to better instruct her. We fret, stress, and worry.

Give Thanks For Teachers Reason 3

A Desire to Make a Difference.

We want to make a difference in the world. With so much hate and violence in the world, we as teachers want to show our students that it is possible to work together in harmony and kinship.

Give Thanks For Teachers Reason 4

Ability to Reach the Individual.

Teachers spend more waking hours with students than many parents. We get to know each child on a very personal level. We are aware of their hopes and dreams, their fears and worries.

Give Thanks For Teachers Reason 5

Lasting Impressions.

Teachers, whether good or bad, leave an impression on the minds of their students. Think back to your schooling for a few minutes. Focus on the teacher that made the greatest impact in your life. Can to see his/her face? Can you hear their voice? Remember any of the lessons they taught you? Why did they leave such a positive impression on you?

Now the real question- did you ever take the time to thank them? Did you spend a few minutes to show gratitude for the attention they devoted to you, the time spent helping you, the nagging and prodding, the worrying and cheerleading? If not, well, I challenge you to pick up the phone, type an email, or mail a letter (yes, those still exist!) and express your gratitude and love for the time spent on you.

And, on this note of gratitude, I want to express my appreciation for all you do! Thanks for being loyal subscribers and dedicated educational professionals!
